Chiagozie Chima Udeh
Executive Board Member Plant for the Planet InitiativeChiagozie, since 2015 has been a Programme Coordinator for Plant-for-the-Planet in Nigeria where it hosts academies to train young Climate Justice ambassadors between 9-15 years as well as organize tree-planting activities in cities within the country. In 2016, he became a member of the Global Executive Board Member of Plant-for-the-Planet and last year was elected Secretary of the board after the historic launch of the Trillion Trees campaign, a flagship programme of the organization which aims to plant 1 trillion trees by 2030 and reduce carbon emissions by 25%. The project was launched in March 2018 in Monaco with Prince Albert II of Monaco playing host to the historic event. The target of 1 trillion trees is based on a study of Crowther Lab and Plant-for-the-Planet which revealed that the planet has space for 1 trillion trees outside existing forest.
As secretary of the board, Chiagozie is helping expand Plant-for-the-Planet chapters and clubs across the world and developing ambitious planting projects in countries such as Ghana, Rwanda, Ethiopia and the UK, many of which are still in the planning phase. During the Global Landscape Forum in New York in September 2019, the organization launched the 2.0 version of its trillion tree app for all devices that makes tree planting just a click away.
Chiagozie since December 2018, was elected the Global South Focal Point of YOUNGO, the Youth Constituency to the UNFCCC where he facilitates global youth engagement in the international climate change processes primarily within the UNFCCC and other spaces within and outside the United Nations.
