Victor Kisob
Deputy Executive Director UN HabitatMr. Victor Kisob is United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UN-Habitat. In this role, Mr. Kisob assists United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, in the overall management and ongoing reform of UN-Habitat, helping the Organization achieve its mandate, specifically in the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, Sustainable Development Goal 11 and the urban dimensions of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
He brings to the position more than two decades of service in human resources and project management; spanning international affairs, policy, strategy, operations, knowledge management and partnerships, coupled with a comprehensive background in the field within the United Nations system, in Somalia, Israel, Palestine, Zambia and Ethiopia.
Prior to joining UN-Habitat, Mr. Kisob served as Director of the Learning, Development and Human Resources Services Division in the Office of Human Resources Management, where he oversaw teams charged with designing and delivering learning and career support initiatives to the global Secretariat staff. He also managed the teams that administer the full range of benefits and entitlements. He also served as Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management, generating new thinking and opportunities for HR change and renewal, particularly in organizational development and learning, career development, staff mobility and the shaping of organizational culture.
Mr. Kisob served as the Principal Officer in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) where he provided substantive support and advice on management issues. He spearheaded overseas missions for the Secretary-General as his trip coordinator along with partner institution heads (President of the World Bank; Chairperson of the African Union Commission; President of the African Development Bank; and EU Commissioner on Development). He chaired an inter-departmental working group tasked with making recommendations on cross-cutting issues concerning the organization’s support of United Nations staff and their families who are affected by malicious acts and natural disasters. During his tenure in the EOSG, Mr. Kisob also served as Director of the United Nations Ebola Response Liaison Office in New York.
In the area of technical cooperation, Mr. Kisob has worked on strengthening the institutional capacities of national project offices, participating banks and partner NGOs by providing technical inputs in the development of training material for the financial management of credit schemes for small-scale enterprises in the informal sector in Burkina Faso, Gambia, Congo and Zambia.
