Professor Sheila Tlou has been Co-Chair of the Global HIV Prevention Coalition since its launch in 2017. She previously served UNAIDS as the Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa.
Before joining UNAIDS she served as Minister of Health of Botswana for 4 years.
She is a strong advocate for gender equality, women’s empowerment and the HIV response among young women and girls in the Eastern and Southern African region, chaired a High Level Group on the ESA Ministerial Commitment on sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents and young people, and has advised various global fora such as the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
