Head of Casamance Regional Chapter in Senegal African Women Millennium Initiative on Poverty and Human Rights (AWOMI)

Binta Djiba is a rural woman from Casamance in the South of Senegal and a member of the African Women Millennium Initiative on Poverty and Human Rights (AWOMI), in charge of the Casamance Regional Chapter in Senegal. She won the seat of Municipal council after campaigning for women's economic empowerment, access to reproductive health services, the need to eliminate maternal mortality and early mariage. She leads a cooperative of women farmers that grow vegetables to be sold in local markets and in the city of Ziguinchor in the South of Senegal. She is a strong advocate and speaker for women's economic and political empowerment.
