Richard Lusimbo is the Research and Documentation Manager of Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG), the leading LGBTI umbrella advocacy organization in Uganda since 2012. He holds a Masters of Philosophy in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BScIT) from the University of Pretoria Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law and Uganda Christian University respectively. Richard is a Co-Director of And Still We Rise, a documentary covering the development of the anti-gay law in Uganda. Richard also served as Co-Chair of Pan Africa ILGA (2016-2018), Alternate Secretary General of ILGA (2014-2016) and Alternate Co-Chair Pan Africa ILGA (2014-2016). He has been heavily involved in a range of advocacy and community mobilization activities in Uganda, Africa and internationally on; rights for LGBTI persons, SRHR and access to health for all. Currently, Richard is also helping to lead PrEP advocacy campaigns in Uganda and regionally. He also has a strong background in human rights and the law, science and technology, digital security, documentation tools, and movement building."
