Sonia Semedo
Founder of Criança positivaMs. Sonia Semedo, born in Cabo Verde, spent her childhood and university years in France, where she also received a degree in Tourism and Solidarity Economy, and in Positive Education and Coaching. Upon return to Cabo Verde, she created a club that offers a space for women to share, learn from each other’s experiences and gain confidence and increased self-esteem. Sonia also established Criança positiva, which is an association that fights against sexual abuse and the exploitation of children. She aspires to raise children’s awareness about sexual abuse and to empower victims. Her greatest challenge has been establishing a protocol for the accompaniment of sexual abuse victims in partnership with the police, health and justice professionals. In 2015, Ms. Semedo served as a moderator at the Beijing +25 Youth Consultation, held in Cote d’Ivoire, which gave her visibility and presence in national and international media (BBC Africa).
