Countdown 2030 Europe, a consortium of 15 national and local Brussels-based NGOs working to ensure that sexual and reproductive health and family planning is a funding priority for European donors, has 7 suggestions for global and national commitments to end the unfinished business of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action at the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25:

  1. Ensure zero unmet need for family planning information and services and universal availability of quality, affordable and safe modern contraceptives by no later than 2030.
  2. Ensure zero preventable maternal deaths by no later than 2030.
  3. Integrate a comprehensive package of SRHR interventions into national UHC strategies, policies and programmes.
  4. Provide all young people with the information they need to decide freely and responsibly about their sexuality, to prevent unwanted pregnancies and to stay healthy.
  5. End all forms of sexual and gender based violence and discrimination against women and girls, by eliminating i.a. harmful practices such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation.
  6. Ensure that the basic humanitarian needs of affected populations – including sexual and reproductive health and rights – are addressed as critical components of humanitarian response.
  7. Intensify efforts for the full, effective and accelerated implementation and funding of the ICPD Programme of Action and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
