Kojo Lokko
Executive Director The Challenge Initiative, Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive HealthKojo Lokko is TCI’s Executive Director and a senior faculty member in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. With experience working in over twenty countries in Africa and Asia, he is a dedicated public health specialist with expertise in scaling up programs particularly in reproductive health, building private/public sector partnerships and producing results using social marketing approaches. He has a demonstrated track record in managing large, multi-faceted global programs. Kojo drives the adoption of TCIHC's "business unusual" approach among its four hubs for greater utilization and adaptation of evidence-based approaches.
During his tenure as Deputy Project Director for the HC3 project, USAID’s flagship health and behavior program under the Center for Communication Programs (CCP), he covered several health areas including family planning and reproductive health through the implementation of a state-of-the-art social and behavior change programs. Kojo also previously served as a senior technical advisor for the global Malaria Networks Project and Chief of Party/Project Director for the Afford Health Marketing Initiative in Uganda. Under the AFFORD project, one of his accomplishments was the creation of the Uganda Health Marketing Group (UHMG), an indigenous health marketing organization that operates an annual budget of over $10 million. Kojo played key roles in leading several social marketing and public-private-partnership initiatives in his native Ghana. Most notably he was Deputy Managing Director at GSMF International, a not-for-profit organization serving the West Africa region specializing in general project management, social marketing, product marketing and distribution.
