Anita Makins
FIGO PPIUD Director FIGODr. Anita Makins is Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a Masters in Public Health in Developing Countries from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is practicing clinician at the Oxford University Hospitals Trust in Oxford and is Director of the PPIUD Initiative at FIGO (International Federation of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists) in London.
Her specialist interest is in Global Women’s health. She has worked extensively in Sub-Saharan Africa for various International NGOS including Medecins Sans Frontieres.
She is currently honorary faculty member of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine’s Diploma in Tropical Medicine, and founding member of Oxford University’s Global Surgery Group.
Her current role in FIGO involves directing a multinational initiative in post partum family planning and with the WHO on disseminating best practice guidelines in Family Planning. She is an active member of FIGO’s Contraception Committee.
