Badr Baabou is a Tunisian human rights defender from the city of Gabes in the southern Tunisia. He is the co-founder and Chairman of the organisation Damj (the Tunisian Association for Justice and Equality) and was the co-chair of the M-Coalition, the only regional HIV/AIDS advocacy network devoted to the needs of LGBT+ community in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Since 2002, he has dedicated himself to working for the LGBT+ community in Tunisia. He is advanced trainer in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV combined prevention as well as in fighting HIV and LGBT+ related stigma and discrimination. Since 2015, Badr is member of the Global Platform to Fast-Track HIV responses among gay men and other men who have sex with men around the world. Despite all challenges related to his field of activism, Badr is determined to continue his work to achieve justice and equality for the LGBT+ community both in Tunisia and across the MENA region. In 2019, he was awarded global laureate & MENA regional winner of the Front Line defenders award.
