Watch, listen and feel this all too common story of Maria and Suzanne, told through traditional Rwandan Inanga (an oval-shaped harp, one of the oldest and most revered traditional music instruments in Rwanda) music and dance. An inter-generational story, it shows that the future is brighter than ever before for women and girls’ rights as girls are given access to education and are empowered to thrive.
UNFPA Rwanda commissioned this short film in the lead up to the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD25) with the aim of encouraging conversations about the right to education and sexual and reproductive health for all. The story helps members of the public - male and female, young and old - to better relate their personal experiences to the stories and progress made in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights in Rwanda.
