Dereje Wordofa
Deputy Executive Director (Programme) United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)Mr. Wordofa, a national of Ethiopia, brings to UNFPA over 28 years of successful experience providing strategic leadership, advocacy and programme development, managing operations in complex and challenging environments, and promoting peace and social justice in Africa.
He represented international organizations at high-level fora, including various strategic networks, alliances, governments, donors and nongovernmental organizations. Before joining UNFPA, Mr. Wordofa worked as International Director for the Eastern and Southern Africa Region for SOS Children’s Village International and Regional Director for Africa at the American Friends Service Committee. Previously, he was Head of the Regional Policy Team based in Oxford and Country Representative for Oxfam in Uganda.
Mr. Wordofa holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Oxford Brookes University and a Master of Science degree in Social Policy in Developing Countries from the London School of Economics. He also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
