CÔTE D'IVOIRE’S COMMITMENT TO ACHIEVING ICPD OBJECTIVES BY 2030
Commitment description:The review that Côte d'Ivoire carried out in 2018 on the 88 commitments adopted by the African ministers who met in Addis Ababa in October 2013 for the Regional Conference on Population and Development presents a positive assessment of the six thematic pillars. This review suggests that the various commitments can be met by 2030 under the following pillars: (i) Dignity and Equality, (ii) Health, (iii) Location and Mobility, (iv) Governance, (v) Data and Statistics, (vi) International Cooperation and Partnership. Thus, in April 2019, Côte d'Ivoire and all UN Member States adopted in New York, during the 52nd session of the UN Commission on Population and Development (CPD), a declaration reaffirming the importance of the ICPD Programme of Action. These countries reaffirmed the primary role of the ICPD in guiding population and development policies and programmes within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, and committed to undertaking further action to ensure its "full, effective and accelerated implementation". Action provisions Overall, Côte d'Ivoire welcomes the progress made in implementing the ambitious ICPD Programme of Action, despite certain persistent challenges that the country intends to address with a view to accelerating the fulfilment of its true potential by 2030. To this end, the Government intends to further refine the alignment of the next generation of national and sectoral planning framework documents with ICPD and SDG targets. It will also increase strategic investment to improve the well-being of populations based on ongoing efforts. Twelve commitments of a political, programmatic, legislative and financial nature have therefore been set out.
