National commitments of young Malagasy people to accelerating the ICPD pledges
Commitment description:We, young Malagasy people representing all of the regions of Madagascar, who met in Antananarivo on 13 and 14 August 2019, at the time of the National Youth Dialogue concerning the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), in order to enhance our commitment to accelerating the fulfilment of the Cairo pledges, Concerned by the high proportion of young people who die during childbirth as a result of, among other things, young people starting reproducing at a young age, harmful traditional practices, inadequate access to information and reproductive health services that are adapted to them,Highlighting that sexual and reproductive health and rights represent an essential basis for carrying out the ICPD Programme of Action and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Acknowledging the fact that the Government of Madagascar and its development partners are taking many steps to improve the health of young people by integrating it into the national road map on the demographic dividend, Taking into account global commitments to deliver on the Cairo pledges and achieve the SDGs, We are committed to: 1. Raising awareness and supporting our peers with regard to sexual and reproductive health to help eradicate preventable maternal deaths; 2. Conveying messages so that young people adopt appropriate and responsible behaviours aimed at eradicating gender-based violence; 3. Continuing to serve as role models, as far as displaying model behaviours is concerned, with a view to encouraging our peers to continue their studies so that they obtain decent employment, or even create their own, thereby guaranteeing them a better future; 4. Stepping up advocacy efforts directed towards decision makers and stakeholders in order to ensure that young people fully participate in civic life and have access to services adapted to them.

(5) (a) Zero sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, including zero child, early and forced marriage, as well as zero female genital mutilation; and (b) Elimination of all forms of discrimination against all women and girls, in order to realize all individuals’ full socio-economic potential.
