Burundi is committed to eradicating sexual and gender-based violence
Commitment description:Burundi is committed to completely eradicating sexual and gender-based violence through: • Strengthening 40 community-based organizations by 2030 in order to promote gender equality and prevent and manage sexual and gender-based violence, including in emergency humanitarian situations • Training 1,000 health care providers in handling sexual violence cases • Strengthening the legal framework and legal services to address the issue of impunity and give survivors of SGBV justice • Supporting the adoption, mainstreaming and implementation of texts, laws, policies and programmes relating to the promotion of gender equality, prevention and response with regard to gender-based violence • Supporting initiatives aimed at the socioeconomic upliftment of women and girls in order to increase their level of involvement in decision-making and reduce the extent of the power imbalance. • Increasing (by at least four) the number of integrated GBV service centres, such as the HUMURA centre

(5) (a) Zero sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, including zero child, early and forced marriage, as well as zero female genital mutilation; and (b) Elimination of all forms of discrimination against all women and girls, in order to realize all individuals’ full socio-economic potential.
