Mexico is including comprehensive sexuality education in the formal basic education curriculum.
Commitment description:Taking into account that: a) the 2030 Agenda dedicates a Goal to gender equality (SDG 5), and that Target 5.C is aimed at adopting and strengthening laws that promote gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels; b) the Montevideo Consensus is the regional road map for fulfilling the Cairo Programme of Action, and contains priority measures (PM 11) to ensure the effective implementation of comprehensive sexuality education programmes, respecting the progressive autonomy of children; and c) the Declaración de Puebla proposes aspirational strategies to accelerate the fulfilment of the agenda on population and development while outlining unresolved challenges such as the advancement of comprehensive sexuality education, within a framework of full recognition of sexual and reproductive rights, MEXFAM commits to promoting the establishment of an effective mechanism for social participation at the federal level by 2022, in collaboration with partner organizations and United Nations organizations, which will provide technical support to the Ministry of National Education of Mexico, in order to advance the implementation and institutionalization of comprehensive scientific and secular sexuality education in line with the values of a democratic and pluralistic society at the basic school level. Indicators: a) An inclusive and effective mechanism for social participation recognized by the Mexican state, to agree on operational strategies for comprehensive sexuality education. b) A report by the Mexican state at the next Regional Conference on Population and Development, showing substantive progress in the institutionalization of comprehensive sexuality education at the basic school level nationally.

(4) Access for all adolescents and youth, especially girls, to comprehensive and age-responsive information, education and adolescent-friendly comprehensive, quality and timely services to be able to make free and informed decisions and choices about their sexuality and reproductive lives, to adequately protect themselves from unintended pregnancies, all forms of sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, to facilitate a safe transition into adulthood.
