Commitment description:

Family planning acceptance and uptake are targeted for improvement along with safe motherhood initiatives such as breastfeeding, maternal nutrition. We are committed to strengthening our non-governmental organisations who tireless work together of our Ministry of Health to raise awareness and provide services for family services to our Cook Islands people. We acknowledge the work of the Cook Islands Family Welfare in partnership with the International Planned Parenthood Federation who are present here today for the many years of invaluable service to our people in this space.  In alignment with the Nairobi ICPD25 Summit global commitments for “Essential SRHR package of interventions in the context of UHC”, the NSDP, the Cook Islands National Health Strategic Plan (2018 – 2021) and the Cook Islands National Youth Policy (2015-2019)

 

Measure: We commit to achieving zero unmet need for family planning information and services and universal availability of quality, affordable and safe modern contraceptives by no later than 2030; as contained in SDG target 3.7 and SDG target 5.6

We will achieve this by ensuring availability and accessibility of quality family planning services which are client friendly; providing at least 3 modern methods of family planning at all primary level facilities and 5 or more methods of modern contraception at the secondary and tertiary level facilities.
