Investing in young people to reap the demographic dividend
Commitment description:Nepal commits to harnessing the demographic dividend through investing in adolescents’ and youth’s education, employment opportunities and health care, including sexual and reproductive health information and services in order to drive economic growth and achieve the SDG targets by 2030.
Modes of engagement:
- Budgetary and financialEnsuring allocation of 15 percent of local government budget for youth development programmes.
- Policy and guidance-Update the National Population Policy 2014 in line with the ICPD Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. -Promote sustainable development by integrating population dynamics in national/sub-national development plans.
- Programmatic actionIncrease gross enrollment in secondary education to 99 percent. Upscale adolescent friendly health services and comprehensive sexuality education. Promote meaningful participation of young people in policy making, development and peace building.
