Commitment title:

we commit to effortlessly advocate for the sexual reproductive health rights of women and girls in Uganda

Commitment description:

Today more than 3 out of 10 young people in Uganda are aged between 10 and 24 years. This makes Uganda one of the youngest countries in the world. Though many look at this as a burden, if well harnessed, the government of Uganda has the opportunity today to reap from this youth demographic. Uganda’s young population is a primary vehicle for realizing the demographic dividend meeting the ICPD targets and the principal engine for achieving the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
These young people are determined to shape social economic development, challenge social norms and values and build the foundations for the country’s future. If the right investments are made for their empowerment to enable them to explore possibilities and fulfill their potential, young people have the capacity to drive the country’s social economic development.
For this to happen, critical investments must be made to protect young people’s rights improve their health, including sexual and reproductive health, to protect them from sexual and gender based violence, and support them to enroll and complete school so they gain the required skills and knowledge to build their capabilities and agency.
As UYAHF, we commit to effortlessly advocate for the sexual reproductive health rights of women and girls in Uganda; especially the vulnerable and hard to reach and to work with the government and development partners in order to achieve the goals of the ICPD Program of Action.

Modes of engagement:
  • Policy and guidance
we are very committed to positively influencing policy implementation in Uganda for example we had an active role in shaping the adolescent health policy in Uganda which aims to improve SRH information and service delivery to young people.
  • Programmatic action
we have various programs around adolescent health and empowerment especially for women and girls, and we plan to broaden their reach and ability to impact the lives of these young women and girls.
