Commitment title:

Kiribati rides on the UHC wave toward zero preventable deaths

Commitment description:

On behalf of the Government and the people of Kiribati, I, Teburoro Tito, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Kiribati to the United Nations, pledge specific and action-oriented national commitments which are also in line with the “Nairobi Summit Global Commitments”, that, we believe, will transform the lives of people of Kiribati and fulfil the promise of Cairo, by no later than the year 2030. These commitments are critical to the unfinished agenda of the ICPD Programme of Action in Kiribati, as well as the fulfillment of the Agenda 2030 and the SDGs. The Government of Kiribati will ensure zero preventable maternal deaths by no later than 2030, as contained in SDG target 3.7 and SDG target 5.6. We will achieve this by increasing the number of basic quality emergency obstetric and newborn care services with clear referral criteria and routes, adoption of quality improvement mechanisms and ensuring equitable distribution of competent and skilled workforce.
