Key Actions for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action of the ICPD, the outcomes of its reviews and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development

Canada endorsed the International Conference on Population Development’s Programme of Action in 1994, as well as the outcome documents of its review conferences, and continues to firmly support gender equality, the empowerment of women and girls, and their sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy places gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls at the centre of its efforts to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Our policy outlines Canada’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) as a key component of human dignity, gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, and recognizes the multi-sectoral and integrated nature of SRHR. As part of this policy, Canada will ensure that 95% of its bilateral international development assistance will advance gender equality by 2021-2022.
