Pacific Youth commit to reaffirm the Youth Calls-to-Action prepared at the Mid-term Review of the Asia Pacific Ministerial Declaration on Population and Development and the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States
Commitment description:We are 16 young people from 10 Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS), of diverse backgrounds, passionate advocates for sustainable and inclusive development and for the full realization of the ICPD Programme of Action.
Pacific young people are committing to active involvement in strengthening the partnerships between grassroots communities, faith based institutions, civil society organizations, private sector, state actors, development partners, and youth networks. Through this, we aim to accelerate actions to address the specific needs and challenges faced by young people in the Pacific.
We commit to working together with our peers from across the Pacific region and globally, to ensure that young people are meaningfully and actively engaged in the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of youth policies and programmes, particularly those directly affecting our SRHR and will advocate at all levels for the fulfillment of our SRHR and well-being.
Adolescents experience high unmet need for contraception, and high rates of adolescent fertility and unintended pregnancy. We therefore commit to work with all national and regional stakeholders for strengthening the Family Life/Comprehensive Sexuality Education programmes in school and out-of-school, and for ensuring young people’s access to adolescent and youth-friendly and disability inclusive services. Only then will we be supported in our transition to adulthood and be informed to make decisions about our bodies and lives with confidence and dignity.
The Pacific young SRHR leaders are committed to advocate for integration of climate change action and SRHR into governmental practice and to coming together to create synergies for climate action to create effective mitigation, resilience, and adaptation.
Lastly, we commit to continue to inform and educate our peers about their SRHR and the importance of gender equality and human rights for ensuring life with dignity and respect for all.
