WBFA Commitment to Accelerating the Promise of ICPD
Commitment description:WBFA commits to a programme of advocacy and actions on a global, and sub-national scale to accelerate progress towards the ICPD agenda of ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet needs for family planning, and gender-based violence and harmful practises. To that end, WBFA will seek to further mobilise private, philanthropic, and multi-sector stakeholders towards this goal, and will continue to monitor and evaluate progress toward commitments already made as a result of our organisational outreach.
Towards the goal of ending preventable maternal deaths, the WBFA Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care (EmONC) program of quality improvement training will reach all selected healthcare facilities in Kwara state by mid-2020. Our EmONC program builds the capacity of doctors, nurses, and midwives to an estimated 62,900 women and their newborns who will benefit from the interventions implemented.
To further reinforce the goal of ending preventable maternal deaths, creating safe spaces to counsel communities in reducing harmful cultural practices, and increase the availability of family planning education; through our qualified 55 midwives, WBFA commits to delivering our frontline MamaCare Antenatal and Postnatal quality programme across Lagos, Abuja and Kwara states. Our MamaCare Midwives further combat maternal sepsis through advocating for improved WASH structures in healthcare facilities and teaching health workers proper cleaning methods in each of the 655 health facilities they operate in.
WBFA commits to ending gender-based violence, and harmful cultural practices through teaching our Adolescent Skills and Drills PSHE curriculum in schools across Nigeria. We commit to teaching adolescents what is considered a healthy relationship and how to spot and respond to abuse. Our health workers also seek to provide adolescents with personal social and health education on sexual and reproductive health and rights.
