SCLAN's Commitment to the ICPD Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Commitment description:Spouses of CARICOM Leaders Action Network (SCLAN) is a non-governmental organization that advocates for the health and well -being of women, adolescents and children in the Caribbean.
The members of SCLAN envision a Caribbean and by extension a world without HIV, TB, cervical cancer, early pregnancy and violence where women and girls know their value and truly can reach their potential.
SCLAN will continue to advocate for policy and strategic partnerships to reduce gender-based violence, HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer, and adolescent pregnancy.
We know that our youth are the future and promoting the health and well-being of adolescents is essential for our youth to thrive. Key actions to fulfill the ICPD Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda will be done through existing programmatic action targeting 10,000 youth 16-24 years in the Caribbean. The goals of the project will be a peer education program where youth will be trained to be able to incorporate newly-acquired decision-making and negotiation skills to complement knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention and protection against domestic violence; lower tlower their risk for HIV and other opportunistic infections through safer sexual practices; and to live a productive and healthy future for themselves and families with reduced HIV and other STI infections by 2022.
SCLAN also believes that everyone plays a a role combatting gender-based violence. For this reason, we are advocating for legislative reform, psycho -social support for victims and the inclusion of men and boys in the solution.
The Spouses of CARICOM Leaders Action Network (SCLAN) remains committed to improving women’s and children’s health and wellbeing in the Caribbean.
