Commitment title:

Promote gender equality in decision making bodies of public and private sector

Commitment description:

On average, women in Mozambique occupy approximately 34% leading positions within various government entities, a number that has increased significantly compared to the 2009 statistics which show that women held 28,8% leading positions. Although there was an increase in the percentage, we are still not satisfied with the number so, in this context, we want to commit ourselves to take action to change the situation.

As young people and having access to a huge network of inspiring and successful women, we commit ourselves to establish, through our organizations, individual and group mentorship sessions between these successful women and young women in their early careers in the main urban areas of the country (Maputo, Beira and Nampula) for the next 5 years, and throughout other areas of the country by 2030. We expect to provide opportunities to develop their communication, public speaking, leadership skills and critical problem solving skills through small projects in their areas of interest, where they are going to work with peers to achieve their goals. This intervention will increase their self-confidence in managing teams and, therefore, their ability to play leading roles within public and private sector entities. We expect to impact at least 100 young women per year, for the next 5 years.

To accelerate this intervention, we will map all young women mentorship interventions and programs implemented in these areas and establish partnerships with organizations working towards the same goal.

Frequently sharing local success stories of women in leading positions will inspire and show young women that it is possible, in our context, to follow the same path and achieve greater results.
This commitment contributes to reach the SDG 5.

Mode of engagement:
  • Programmatic action
Coalizão will carry out a series of programmatic actions including individual and group mentorship sessions between successful women and young women in their early careers, mapping of all young women mentorship interventions and programs.
