Civil Society Action for SRHR in Asia Pacific
Commitment description:As a regional CSO network, APA commits to intensifying our efforts to realize ICPD Programme of Action, focusing on the 2013 Asian and Pacific Ministerial Declaration on Population and Development commitments and monitoring framework, and through ensuring linkages with other national, regional and global processes aimed at achieving rights based sustainable development and SRHR for all by 2030.
We will achieve this by:
- Mobilizing civil society joint action in Asia and the Pacific on rights based policy and law for SRHR, and for the review and repeal of those with a detrimental impact on health, equality and human rights;
- Working collaboratively with government and other stakeholders to ensure accountability for commitments and to increase domestic and ODA investments in SRHR;
- Enhancing capacity of members and partners in Asia Pacific region to engage in regional and global frameworks, to monitor progress, and to influence national and regional plans of action for advancing the ICPD PoA in Asia Pacific;
- Contributing to the development and implementation of the regional monitoring framework for the 2013 APMDPD, and on qualitative indicators for SRHR accountability
- Ensuring active and meaningful participation of marginalized groups in our activities and in development processes related to SRHR, towards the creation of an enabling environment for all in Asia Pacific;
- Tirelessly advocating for the areas of greatest need in our region, for rights of all people to bodily autonomy and integrity; for access to safe and legal abortion; for the elimination of stigma, discrimination, violence and coercion against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-conforming people and intersex people, people with disabilities, indigenous people, racial and ethnic minorities, migrants, people living with HIV or TB, people who use drugs, sex workers and other marginalized groups.
Modes of engagement:
- Policy and guidanceAPA will provide information and support to our member organizations working for progressive, rights based policy and laws to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights for all at national, regional and global level.
- Programmatic actionAPA will enhance the capacity of our members to engage in rights based legal and policy development and review processes, and ensure that the rights and needs of marginalized groups are heard and addressed.
(1) Intensify our efforts for the full, effective and accelerated implementation and funding of the ICPD Programme of Action, Key Actions for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action of the ICPD, the outcomes of its reviews, and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
