Commitment description:

Turkmenistan strives to achieve universal access to sexual and reproductive health as a part of universal health coverage (UHC), by striving to achieve zero preventable maternal deaths.

- The country specifically plans to develop a costed National Strategy and Action Plan on Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health in Turkmenistan for 2020-2030. The Strategy was developed in line with the UN Secretary-General’s Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health and WHO Action plan for sexual and reproductive health, and for the first time the strategy will be ensuring gender equality principles and addressing gender-based violence.

- Turkmenistan intends to introduce a free basic package of maternal and reproductive health services, including for adolescents, to ensure universal health coverage, especially for vulnerable groups, as part of the National Strategy on Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health in Turkmenistan for 2020-2030.

(3) Zero preventable maternal deaths and maternal morbidities, such as obstetric fistulas, by, inter alia, integrating a comprehensive package of sexual and reproductive health interventions, including access to safe abortion to the full extent of the law, measures for preventing and avoiding unsafe abortions, and for the provision of post-abortion care, into national UHC strategies, policies and programmes, and to protect and ensure all individuals’ right to bodily integrity, autonomy and reproductive rights, and to provide access to essential services in support of these rights.
