ZERO PREVENTABLE MATERNAL DEATHS IN GUINEA-BISSAU

Commitment description:

3.1. Train 150 midwives, 20 doctors and 130 nurses to develop the skills of 300 health professionals from various SRHR services, particularly those for young people, by 2024. 3.2. Train 4 young local doctors in surgical techniques to improve routine obstetric fistula case management, by 2024. 3.3. Rehabilitate 4 health units (maternity/operating room), by 2024. 3.4. Provide financial and technical support to the Associação Nacional de Parteiras [AGUIPEO – National Midwives Association] and the national midwifery school for courses to increase the number of midwives in the country, including young people, by 2024. 3.5. Establish maternal death surveillance and response (MDSR) in all 11 health regions, with at least 60/80 per cent of maternal deaths, especially those involving adolescents and young mothers, audited with available reports, by 2024 and 2030 respectively.

(3) Zero preventable maternal deaths and maternal morbidities, such as obstetric fistulas, by, inter alia, integrating a comprehensive package of sexual and reproductive health interventions, including access to safe abortion to the full extent of the law, measures for preventing and avoiding unsafe abortions, and for the provision of post-abortion care, into national UHC strategies, policies and programmes, and to protect and ensure all individuals’ right to bodily integrity, autonomy and reproductive rights, and to provide access to essential services in support of these rights.
