Youth Commitments: Ghana
Commitment description:Universal SRHR in the context of UHC
Young people will
1. Advocate for the inclusion of sexual and reproductive health services in the NHIS package
2. Advocate for adolescent and youth friendly SRHR services and safe spaces in community hospitals and health centres near them
3. Commit to honouring postings (as health professionals) to rural areas, and also commit to follow-up and advocacy so that fellow young health professionals do same
4. Advocate for equitable distribution of resources for health facilities across all geographic regions
5. Advocate for the completion/ rehabilitation of infrastructure, including roads, hospitals, clinics, and Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS), irrespective of change in government
6. Advocate for the availability and accessibility of Family Planning services to diverse groups of young people
7. Increase SRHR campaign and education to create awareness among adolescents and youth in Ghana
8. Advocate for availability of quality and disaggregated data to help in programming and SRHR service delivery
9. Ensure persons with disabilities are not discriminated against accessing Family planning information and services
Creating financing momentum
Young people will
1. Engage in fundraising activities, including crowdfunding, to support local projects
2. Engage in social entrepreneurship
3. Work with local government to outsource funding for communal projects
4. Advocate for opportunities of paid internships for young people while in school to give them capital for entrepreneurial start-ups
5. Utilize local government, religious and traditional structures for youth-led interventions
6. Employ smart ways of rolling out community engagements through the use of innovation and technology
7. Support adolescent and youth-led organisations and initiatives
8. Advocate for Government to subsidize costs of raw materials to generate revenue for youth-led start-ups
Mode of engagement:
- Programmatic actionYoung people in Ghana, in partnership with government, FBOs, CBOs and tbe UN will take action towards contributing to the full implementation of the ICPD PoA in the coming years.
(5) (a) Zero sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, including zero child, early and forced marriage, as well as zero female genital mutilation; and (b) Elimination of all forms of discrimination against all women and girls, in order to realize all individuals’ full socio-economic potential.
