Commitment title:

Using Music to inspire Action towards SDGs Action and ICPD Agenda Action in Uganda

Commitment description:

I'm passionate about Sustainable Development and I'm using Music to inspire positive social action in my local community Kasese, and Uganda in general - action towards ensuring access to proper sexual reproductive health information and services for teenagers and young mothers, action against child marriages, defilement, SGBV and all things SDGs. I'm passionate about using music to inspire action by all stakeholders towards the realization of the UN agenda 2030.This 25th Summit of the International Conference on Population and Development is a great platform for all of us actors and stakeholders in the pursuit of the realization of SDG 3, SDG5 and the ICPD agenda for women and girls by mobilizing the political and financial commitments urgently needed to finally implement the ICPD program action.
Regarding my passion for music, I've had a passion for singing since Sunday school because music, as a tool of communicating social challenges, transcends the limitations of spoken and written language. I sing to express not only my ideals, pains, aspirations, frustration and dreams as a girl from a poor family born amidst armed conflict, but also those of fellow young people in my community. When we wrote my breakthrough song “GET OFF MY WAY,” it was born out of the struggle I have had as a girl from a very poor family and the constant pressure for me to leave school and get married – like most of the girls in my circumstances end up doing. So many girls have been married off forcefully in my community because their parents were too poor to afford them an education and resorted to marrying them off to get bride price and because their parents did not know better. Other girls in my community have been forced by circumstances to engage in risky sexual behavior, for lack of adequate SRH information, and thus have become young mothers and HIV positive. I sing passionately about the challenges of the girl child in rural Uganda, broken families, and other social problems.
