The treatment and prevention of rape and sexual violence in Nigeria

Commitment description:

To support the overall goal of zero sexual and gender based violence through the treatment and support of survivors of rape at the WARIF Rape Crisis Centre where they are offered immediate medical care, psychosocial counselling, access to shelters, legal aid and vocational skills training totally FREE of charge. The WARIF Centre has seen over 1,300 survivors since its inception in December 2016.

To educate young girls between the ages of 13 -18 in Secondary Schools across Nigeria on rape and sexual violence through the WARIF Educational School Program, a 4 week life transforming session equipping them with tools needed to understand sexuality, identify abuse, refer survivors to the WARIF Centre and report cases of abuse. WARIF has educated over 1,300 girls in schools across Lagos, Nigeria.

To mentor young boys between the ages of 13 - 18 in Secondary Schools across Nigeria through the WARIF Boys Conversation Cafe, an initiative launched to change the already existing negative mindset of boys about rape and sexual violence. Through informal learning sessions with mentors, they are taught and encouraged to be protectors and not perpetrators. WARIF has mentored over 400 boys in schools across Lagos, Nigeria who have committed to being protectors in their respective communities.
