Strengthening Women's leadership and gender equity in global health to accelerate implementation of ICPD
Commitment description:Women in Global Health recognise the landmark ICPD adopted by 179 countries in Cairo, Egypt 25 years ago in 1994. We recognise the impactof the Programme for the rights of womnen and girls, gender equality and therefore sustainable development and all of humanity. We support the ambition expressed in the Nairobi Statement on ICPD25 'Accelerating the Promise' to accelerate the full and effective implementation of commitments made at ICPD. We are a global network committed to gender transformative leadersihp in global health and gender parity in global health leadership. Gender equity will strengthen the health workforve and a strong gender equal health workforce is central to accelerating delivery of ICPD commtiemtns. We commit ot the following:
1. convening key stakeholders and ecision makers to strengthen women's voice and leadership in global health decision makingat all levels from community to global.
2. Through our leadership with WHO of the gender Equity Hub of the the Global Health Worker Network ensure gender inequality in the health workforce is acknowledged and addressed.
3. Enable WGH national and regional chapters to champion the rights of women and girls and gender equality in order to accelerate ICPD implementation everywhere.
4. as a co-convener with Women Deliver and the International Women's Health Coalition of the Alliance for Gender Equality and UHC, continue to campaign for a Universal Health Coverage model that fully integrates SRHR and meets the health needs of all women and girls.
(1) Intensify our efforts for the full, effective and accelerated implementation and funding of the ICPD Programme of Action, Key Actions for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action of the ICPD, the outcomes of its reviews, and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
