SOLOMON YOUTH COUNCIL - ACCELERATING YOUTH FOCUSED ACTIONS

Commitment description:

We young people of Solomon Islands acknowledge the commitment of the local government (Honiara City Council and its partner Child fund NZ) to implementing an adaptive model for improving social and emotional wellbeing of young people through provision of youth counselling space, outreach advocacy and counselling services, relevant educational and training opportunities to 26 young Solomon Islanders.

The ultimate goal is to have access to personalised youth counselling services addressing their social and emotional wellbeing as their rights has been neglected to access basic social welfare service including, reproductive health counselling services, emotional counselling as a vital condition for youths to be provided a learning opportunities to improve knowledge, attitude and practices around managing emotions, gender equality, sexual reproductive health, and digital media and other issues.
Youths of Solomon Islands through the mandate of the Honiara Youth Council is committed to advocate on the national level for the government of Solomon Islands to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability. Young people of Solomon Islands recognizes the contributions and welfare of its youths living with disability therefore commits to continue its advocacy to the local government and national government to ratify the CRPD by 2030.

(4) Access for all adolescents and youth, especially girls, to comprehensive and age-responsive information, education and adolescent-friendly comprehensive, quality and timely services to be able to make free and informed decisions and choices about their sexuality and reproductive lives, to adequately protect themselves from unintended pregnancies, all forms of sexual and  gender-based violence and harmful practices, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, to facilitate a safe transition into adulthood.
