Scaling Well-being for Women and Girls
Commitment description:Tostan understands that much gender-based violence can be linked back to harmful social expectations and beliefs that perpetuate gender discrimination and other violence against women, girls and other marginalized groups. In 2020-2025 Tostan will partner with 1,370 new communities in five West African countries who will then engage their extended social networks to reach more than two million people, shifting the beliefs that underpin and perpetuate violence against women and girls. This will result in more than 2,000 communities declaring abandonment of the harmful practices of female genital cutting and child/forced marriage as well as a general reduction in gender-based violence. We commit to demonstrating what is possible at scale with a respectful, inclusive, holistic model. This will provide a replicable evidence-based foundation for other partnerships in other regions before 2030.
Mode of engagement:
