Political and community leadership to accelerate the commitment to people of African descent in the Americas and the Caribbean.
Commitment description:The Permanent Council of Afrodescendants of the Americas and the Caribbean (COPAFRO) is committed to the overall objective of political and community leadership to accelerate the commitment. As such, the specific actions that this political body could commit to establishing for 2020 includes a line of social and political advocacy that promotes, for the next three years, in the 42 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, the full and effective implementation of the intergovernmental agreements of the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development, the commitment of San Jose, Costa Rica, and others to accelerate the fulfilment of the rights of people of African descent, with the commitment acting as a regional road map to fulfilling the Cairo Programme of Action, but with special emphasis on equality for men and women of African descent. At COPAFRO, we strongly believe that empowering new social leaders who have a political nature could accelerate the fulfilment of the global commitments, from a local, territorial and regional perspective. That is why COPAFRO will work together with social movements, governments and international cooperation to act so as to ensure fulfilment and the reduction of inequalities in the execution of the ICPD Programme of Action, the 2030 Agenda, and the SDGs in Latin America and the Caribbean. To accelerate the commitment, we must contribute to the creation and organization of political and community will.
