Multi-ethnic, community-based organizations are committed to demanding that the human rights of women and young people are respected, protected and guaranteed, including no gender-based violence, and access to health, sexual and reproductive rights.
Commitment description:By 2021, Nicaraguan civil society organizations will advocate before state institutions and society in general to: Promote the empowerment and autonomy of women, girls, adolescents and young people in all their diversity, including respect for and protection of their personal integrity, ensuring non-discrimination and non-coercion, and providing information based on scientific evidence for decision-making on reproduction and sexuality. Urge society to implement strategies to prevent, protect, respond to and eradicate all forms of gender-based violence, specifically violence against women and girls throughout their lives, including sexual violence and femicide. Violence against girls in multi-ethnic contexts must be addressed using an intercultural approach. Advocate in society to raise awareness among the population, organizations and institutions on promoting the exercise of the sexual and reproductive rights of people with disabilities, people of African descent, indigenous peoples, LGBTI groups and more vulnerable groups. Promote the development of programmes from social organizations and state institutions that aim to raise awareness and provide tools to different players in civil society that promote the protection of and timely response to girls, adolescents and young people with disabilities, of African descent, or who are indigenous. Ensure that Ministry of Health health care centres implement comprehensive, timely and high-quality sexual and reproductive health programmes for adolescents and young people that ensure modern, safe and effective contraceptive methods. Urge the Ministry of Health and the Instituto Nacional de Información de Desarrollo to generate statistics broken down by ethnicity and race, as a tool to analyse the situation of people of African descent
