Mexico is reducing violence against girls, adolescents and women, including femicides

Commitment description:

Taking into account that: a) the 2030 Agenda dedicates a Goal to gender equality (SDG 5), with the aim of eliminating all forms of violence against all women in the public and private spheres; b) the Montevideo Consensus is the regional road map for fulfilling the Cairo Plan of Action, and calls for ensuring healthy coexistence and a life free of violence, through intersectoral strategies that ensure protection and timely access to justice and reparation for damage; c) the Declaración de Puebla constitutes an instrument to accelerate action on the agenda on population and development, and that one of the issues of greatest concern is the alarming and growing number of cases of violence against women in the Latin America and Caribbean region, including femicides; and d) the Mexican state uses multisectoral mechanisms to reduce violence against girls, adolescents and women, but that there are challenges to fully and adequately implementing them, MEXFAM commits to conduct a social audit exercise by 2022 to monitor the implementation of public programmes by the Mexican state in the areas of justice, education and health, aimed at preventing, responding to and eradicating violence against women. Indicators: a) A social audit system operating and yielding results on the situation in the implementation of intersectoral actions to prevent, respond to and eradicate violence against women by the Mexican state, b) An annual report by the Mexican state in 2022, at the United Nations High-level Political Forum, showing significant progress in reducing violence against women.
