ICPD+25/ Nairobi Summit 2019 COMMITMENT REPUBLIC OF SEYCHELLES

Commitment description:

The Government of Seychelles is committed to the following proposed ICPD25 commitments:
By 2023

I. Guarantee Universal Sexual Reproductive Health and Reproductive Rights

We commit to:
• Promote health in all its approaches. Its main priority is to take AIDS out of isolation through people-centered systems.
• Strive for zero preventable maternal, neonatal and child deaths by intensifying delivery services, antenatal care and post-natal services in all heath centers.
• Ensure zero unmet need for family planning information and services, and universal availability of quality, affordable and safe modern contraceptives.
• Integrate a comprehensive package of sexual and reproductive health interventions into national policies.

II. Create Financing Momentum

We commit to:
 Maintaining a minimum of 10% of the annual budget towards the national health sector.
 Commit to providing support to civil society organisations to access funding for sexual and reproductive health.

III. Ensure demographic diversity and Social Development

We commit to ensure that older people are empowered to age actively and healthily with equal rights in society, by:
• Reviewing the policies governing the Home-Care Scheme.
• Setting in place the mechanism to ensure greater protection for the pensioners.
• Establishing a National Framework for action on Healthy Ageing.
• Holding public consultations on options to increase the retirement age and rate of contribution
• Developing comprehensive programs for elderly care.

IV. Fight against gender-based violence and harmful practices against women and girls

We commit to continue working to end all forms of discrimination through:
• Reviewing, amending and or repealing all discriminatory laws;
• Conducting trainings for judiciary, prosecutors and law enforcement officers on gender-based violence;
• Conducting a comprehensive review of education, training policies, and programs to identify gender stereotyping.

  • Budgetary and financial
     We commit to maintaining a minimum of 10% of the annual budget towards the national health sector. As set forth in our National Development Strategy, Seychelles aims to achieve the attainment of the highest level of health and wellbeing.

  • Change or creation of legislation
    We commit to support all efforts to mitigate the existence of trafficking in persons, through the implementation of the clauses of the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons Act, 2014;
  • Policy and guidance
    The Government of Seychelles through its relevant Ministries and agencies will consolidate on the gains of UHC to achieve health and well-being throughout life course by promoting health in all approaches from 2019-2023;
  • Programmatic action
    We commit to continue working to end all forms of discrimination through enhanced and programmatic action especially for boys and men. We also commit to continue building inclusive societies where everyone, irrespective of their vulnerability,

(4) Access for all adolescents and youth, especially girls, to comprehensive and age-responsive information, education and adolescent-friendly comprehensive, quality and timely services to be able to make free and informed decisions and choices about their sexuality and reproductive lives, to adequately protect themselves from unintended pregnancies, all forms of sexual and  gender-based violence and harmful practices, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, to facilitate a safe transition into adulthood.
