HEALING BODIES THROUGH ADVOCACY: "A VITAL ACT FOR FEMALE ADVOCATES OF SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN"
Commitment description:Female advocates of sexual and reproductive health and rights require special attention on human rights advocacy issues. Despite being in a high-risk situation and being victims of different types of violations of their fundamental rights, they are still not formally or legally subject to protection, which prevents the full details of their situation from being known, adequate protection methods from being proposed, and concrete support from international bodies and national governments from being provided to those defending this body of rights. The fact that they are advocates of sexual and reproductive rights puts them at a disadvantage compared to other human rights advocates and means that action must be taken urgently to address their difficult situation, particularly in contexts of political instability and the breakdown or weakening of democratic order. The Red de Salud de las Mujeres Latinoamericanas y del Caribe undertakes to create spaces for self-care, self-determination and self-protection for female advocates of sexual and reproductive rights, while defending and championing the creation of regulatory frameworks that ensure their human rights.
