Family Planning Partnership from 2020-2030
Commitment description:FP2020 commits to shaping the global family planning (FP) partnership beyond 2020 to support achieving the SDGs by 2030. The partnership will be guided by the principle that all women and girls should have the freedom and ability to make their own informed decisions about using modern contraception and whether and when to have children.
We will do this by embracing core principles:
• Voluntary, person-centered, rights-based approaches, with equity at the core: Individuals should be able to freely make choices that reflect their desires and needs. Every decision made by the partnership will reflect the fundamental belief that each person has the same right to quality FP, regardless of geography, socioeconomic status, age, or marital status. .
• Empowering women and girls and engaging men, boys, and communities: Proactive and positive male inclusion is needed to transform normalization of FP and share the burden of decision making. This must happen in tandem with empowerment of women and girls to create true equity.
• Build intentional and equitable partnerships with adolescents, youth, and marginalized populations to meet their needs: People living in hard to reach areas, including fragile or humanitarian settings, as well as those living with disabilities, LGBTQI persons, and rural or urban poor have been consistently under served, and the partnership commits to prioritizing them.
• Country-led global partnerships, with shared learning and mutual accountability for commitments and results: Country and civil society commitments drive progress with support from regional and global stakeholders for implementation, coordination, and local and global accountability.
We will focus on strategies that:
• Expand the Narrative and Shape the Policy Agenda;
• Drive Data and Evidence-Informed Decision Making;
• Increase, Diversify, and Efficiently Use Financing;
• Transform Social and Gender Norms; and
• Improve System Responsiveness to Individual Rights
Mode of engagement:
- Programmatic actionFP2020 is a global partnership supporting the rights of women and girls to decide freely and for themselves whether, when, and how often to have children with the goal of enabling 120 million additional women and girls to use contraception by 2020.
