Draft statement on Bhutan’s Commitment by Her Excellency Dechen Wangmo, Hon’ble Minister of Health, Royal Governmment of Bhutan ICPD 25 Summit, Nairobi
Commitment description:•Continue provision of free access to basic public health services in both modern and traditional medicines, including sexual and reproductive health related services.
•Strengthen infrastructure and services such as fertility clinic, renal clinic and epidural labour analgesia to better care for mothers and children.
•Intensify strategies and programs to achieve zero preventable maternal deaths and morbidities
•Develop and Implement a policy for Accelerated mother and child health care by ensuring optimal utilization of health services through demand side programming such as adoption of conditional cash transfers
•Strengthen and intensify efforts to improve access to information and services related to adolescent sexual reproductive health and rights through comprehensive sexuality education in schools and institutions.
•Strengthen enforcement of laws related to the care and protection of women and children such as the Child Care and Protection Act 2011, the Child Adoption Act 2012, the Penal Code (Amendment) Act of Bhutan 2011 (PCB) and The Domestic Violence Prevention Act 2013
•Develop and implement a national gender equality policy.
•Mobilize adequate resources from domestic or external resources, including through innovative financing mechanisms to finance plans and programs related to SDGs and ICPD PoA
•Commit adequate resources for the implementation of the accelerated mother and child health policy and the cervical cancer strategy.
•Develop and implement measures to reap the benefits of demographic dividend by adequately investing in health, education, and employment programs for our youths and adolescents
