Advocacy : universal access to SRHR in the Maldives
Commitment description:As an independent researcher, CSO actor and rights advocate, I commit to continue contributing to and advocating for the fulfillment of the ICPDs "unfinished business" of universal access to SRHR in the Maldives through evidence-based learning and engagement with all relevant stakeholders at all levels using available platforms and opportunities - to raise the issues of gender-based discrimination, violence, criminalisation, stigmatisation and marginalisation which too often are the lived experiences of girls, women and young people deprived of access to SRH&R; to join the global call for inclusivity and to leave no one behind; to achieve the SDG goals by 2030 with special focus on SDG5 and realise SDG5.6 specifically in the Maldives.
Modes of engagement:
- Change or creation of legislationAdvocacy to strengthen the legal framework on women's rights including implementation of the Domestic Violence Prevention Act, Gender Equality Law and review and reform the Family Law 2000.
- Policy and guidanceAdvocacy to strengthen National RH Strategy, family planning guidelines, the DHS and other policy and guidance connected to the realisation of SRH&R
(4) Access for all adolescents and youth, especially girls, to comprehensive and age-responsive information, education and adolescent-friendly comprehensive, quality and timely services to be able to make free and informed decisions and choices about their sexuality and reproductive lives, to adequately protect themselves from unintended pregnancies, all forms of sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, to facilitate a safe transition into adulthood.
