Achieving Universal Health Coverage for all South Africans
Commitment description:The South Africa government will expedite the finalisation, promulgation and implementation of the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill 2019 to provide access to good quality health services for all South Africans, based on their health needs, and not their ability to pay, as envisaged in the National Development Plan 2030.
Mode of engagement:
- Programmatic actionImprove access to RH services, including targeting adolescent SRHR in order to address pregnancies and risky behavior, and up-scaling existing campaigns and programmes on new HIV infections amongst youth, women and persons with disabilities.
(3) Zero preventable maternal deaths and maternal morbidities, such as obstetric fistulas, by, inter alia, integrating a comprehensive package of sexual and reproductive health interventions, including access to safe abortion to the full extent of the law, measures for preventing and avoiding unsafe abortions, and for the provision of post-abortion care, into national UHC strategies, policies and programmes, and to protect and ensure all individuals’ right to bodily integrity, autonomy and reproductive rights, and to provide access to essential services in support of these rights.
