Accomplishing a Better Barbados through Health and Gender Empowerment
Commitment description:The Barbados Family Planning Association, better known as the BFPA, commits to supporting the Government of Barbados in its mission of making Barbadians live their healthiest possible lives, through promoting healthy well-being. The BFPA will also assist the Government in its mission of making Barbadian society gender-equitable by empowering women and girls through evidenced-based social intervention programmes; the delivery of maternal health services; child health services; and sexual and reproductive health services, by 2030.
The BFPA with the hopeful receipt of project funds, donations and government financial support will by 2030 deliver over a half-million services as it continues its expansion of the provision of access to high quality medical and clinical services; modern quality sexual and reproductive health services; the delivery of a culturally attuned Comprehensive Sexuality Education Curriculum; the distribution of evidence-based information; the provision of empowerment programming for young adolescents especially teenage mothers; and the advocacy for unchallengeable Sexual Rights to all Barbadians especially women, girls and key populations.

- Programmatic actionThe BFPA was established in May 1954. The Association provides sexual and reproductive health information, clinical services, education, training, community outreach services and research.
(4) Access for all adolescents and youth, especially girls, to comprehensive and age-responsive information, education and adolescent-friendly comprehensive, quality and timely services to be able to make free and informed decisions and choices about their sexuality and reproductive lives, to adequately protect themselves from unintended pregnancies, all forms of sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, to facilitate a safe transition into adulthood.
