Myanmar Commits to end preventable maternal mortality by 2030

Commitment description:

1) To ensure implementation of evidence based Maternal and Reproductive Health interventions, as defined in the Basic Essential Package of Health Services, and as defined in the National Health Plan-2017-2021, based on Myanmar Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Policy
2) To provide women-centered sexual and reproductive health care, focused on patient safety and improvement of quality of care through continuum of care approach to attain Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
3) To train midwives according to national midwifery standards, deployed and supported with regulated professional development to provide skilled care.
4) To implement community interventions for pregnancy notification, pregnancy planning for institutional delivery and supportive care through community empowerment.
5) To strengthened referral systems in managing life-threatening obstetric emergencies with strong coordination and collaboration among health care providers, health facilities and empowering women and the community.
6) To increase designated budget allocation for Maternal and Reproductive Health, specifically investing in reproductive health commodity security, with functional electronic Logistic Management Information System (e-LMIS) nationwide.
7) To increase interpretation and utilization of disaggregated data from District Health Information System (DHIS 2) to inform decision making for better planning, implementation and evaluation to enhance EPMM strategy for Myanmar.
8) To strengthen responses to every maternal death reported through the maternal death surveillance and response (MDSR) System to avert further preventable maternal deaths.
9) To ensure responsive maternal and reproductive health services provided in humanitarian setting through multi-sectoral collaboration as part of the rapid response health cluster

(3) Zero preventable maternal deaths and maternal morbidities, such as obstetric fistulas, by, inter alia, integrating a comprehensive package of sexual and reproductive health interventions, including access to safe abortion to the full extent of the law, measures for preventing and avoiding unsafe abortions, and for the provision of post-abortion care, into national UHC strategies, policies and programmes, and to protect and ensure all individuals’ right to bodily integrity, autonomy and reproductive rights, and to provide access to essential services in support of these rights.
